The name ‘Edakkal’ literally means ‘a stone in between’. Here you can see a cave formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock. Many legends are there behind the formation of Edakkal caves. One of the stories is that, these caves are said to be formed with the arrows fired by Lava and Kusha, the sons of Lord Sri Rama. Another one is associated with Kutti Chathan and the Goddess Mudiampilly. The local people used to have a pilgrimage trip to this place to honour the Goddess.
Kuruva Dweep or Kuruva Island is a protected river delta, comprising a cluster of islands over the middle of Kabini River in Wayanad. Dwelling deep into this island, you can sight many attractive things like bridges made up of bamboo trees and other rare species of trees. The uninhabited island is home to rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc. Coming so much closer to the nature, you might be feeling Kuruva Island as a nature's gift to Wayanad.

Banasura Sagar dam across the Karamanathodu River, a tributary of River Kabini, in Kalpetta, is considered to be the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia. The dam is ideally placed in the foothills of Banasura hills, which got its name from 'Banasura', the son of King Mahabali, the famous ruler of Kerala. It is said that 'Banasura' undertook severe penance on the top of the hills. Banasura hill is the third largest peak in the Western Ghats.
A gorgeous water body (one of the best in the whole state of Kerala), the Sentinel rock waterfalls at Soochipara is a treat to the eyes. The pool beneath the waterfall has facilities for rafting, bathing and other recreational water activities. You will find a number of tree huts in the area, which provide amazing views of the western ghats. There are a number of springs and shallow pools of water in the area.

The varying topography of the district which includes hills, rocks and valleys can be enjoyed the most from Chembra peak and T here is also a HEART SHAPE lake atop the hills which is another tourist attraction.
Karapuzha Dam is considered to be one of the biggest earth dams in India, which has been constructed on the Karapuzha River. It is an ideal place for watching aquatic birds that frequent the reservoir, which is surrounded by partially submerged hills and green islands.
Thirunelli Temple is more than 3000 years old and is located near the famous ‘Papanasini River’ in the Wayanad District. The main deity in this temple is Lord Vishnu, whose idol is present in Chaturbhuja form, which means having four arms. There are around 30 granite columns surrounding this temple. Connected via bridge, the Papanasini River water is used for various rituals inside the temple.
This Chain tree is located near Vythiri and is 15 kms from Kalpetta. This is a large Ficus tree bounded by a long chain. Ficus tree is the official tree of Thailand. Under natural conditions this tree will grow upto 98 feet. It has swinging branches, silky leaves and small fruit. This small fruit is a favourite food for many birds.
